Greeters Network history

The Greeter concept started in 1992 in New York. Lynn Brooks got the idea of establishing, because, over the years she gained a lot of friends by traveling around the world. She wanted to host them in her hometown and to show them New York the way she experienced it, as a big-small town with a variety of neighborhoods, shops, entertainment areas and interesting local residents who make visitors feel welcome.

Today, many cities in the world such as Paris, Buenos Aires, Houston, Melbourne, Chicago, have their own Greeters organization, and they are all part of the Global Greeter Network. Each organization is different, but they work in accordance with the International Greeters Charter, which Subotica tourist board signed in the middle of 2010.
